Konya Agricultural Store and Cold Storage

A 2,400 square-metre steel store and an 800 square-metre cold room were built for a producer cooperative on the Konya Plain. The structural system provides a column-free volume with 24-metre-span portal frames, and the cold rooms are insulated with 100 mm PIR panels.

The region's snow load (1.1 kN/m²) and wind speed were specially taken into account; the roof pitch was set to prevent snow retention. The store was delivered two months before harvest season and stored 6,800 tonnes of produce in its first season.

Result

Thanks to the cold chain, product loss fell from 14% to 3%. The building was left ready for future solar panels and expansion.

Lessons from this project

Planning site preparation and the access road in advance directly shortens installation time. In every project we prepare a written site handover report with the employer for foundation preparation and draw the turning of delivery vehicles and crane position beforehand.
